Royale Reign never had a choice. She was born into a powerful criminal dynasty, and after her entire family is murdered she is forced into an arranged marriage with the ruthless head of a Mexican cartel, Santiago De León. To the outside world, she is a beautiful wife living a life of luxury. Behind closed doors, she’s a prisoner trapped in a cage of misery and hatred.

Desperate for one night where she can be someone else, Royale sneaks away to an exclusive masquerade party known only to the wealthy, dangerous, and untouchable. Behind her mask, no one knows her name and that night changes everything. Four men enter her life by fate Ace Carter,  Bishop Carter, King Carter, and Prince Carter. Let’s see where this new journey takes her.

Chapter One
The Queen’s Cage

Royale Reign stood in the middle of a closet bigger than most people’s bedrooms, surrounded by designer heels, silk dresses, diamond watches, and purses that cost more than some cars.
And still, she felt broke.
Not money broke.
Soul broke.
The kind of broke nobody could see because the outside looked too expensive.
Her reflection stared back at her from the full-length mirror, flawless and empty. Long black hair curled down her back. Soft brown skin glowing under the warm closet lights. Diamond studs in her ears. A gold bracelet locked around her wrist like jewelry, though sometimes it felt more like a shackle.
Royale lifted her hand and touched the bracelet.
Santiago had given it to her the night after their wedding.
“Every queen needs her crown,” he had said.
But what he really meant was, every possession needed a tag.
The bedroom door opened behind her.
Royale didn’t turn around.
She didn’t have to.
The air changed when Santiago Reyes entered a room. It got heavier. Colder. Like even the walls knew to behave.
“You’re not dressed yet,” he said.
His voice was calm, but Royale knew better than to trust calm.
“I’m almost ready.”
Santiago stepped into the closet, dressed in a black tailored suit with a gold watch flashing on his wrist. He was handsome in a dangerous way, with sharp cheekbones, dark eyes, and the kind of smile that made strangers trust him.
Royale knew that smile was a lie.
He came up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders.
“You look beautiful,” he said, looking at her reflection.
“Thank you.”
His fingers tightened just enough to remind her who was in control.
“You know tonight is important.”
Royale nodded. “I know.”
“This dinner is not just dinner. These men respect me. They fear me. They watch everything connected to me.” His eyes dragged over her face in the mirror. “That includes you.”
Royale swallowed.
She wanted to say she was tired of being watched.
Tired of smiling for men who whispered about money, drugs, guns, and power over plates of steak and glasses of imported liquor.
Tired of being shown off like Santiago had won her in a card game.
But she said none of that.
“I won’t embarrass you,” she said.
Santiago smiled.
“There’s my good girl.”
The words made her stomach twist.
He kissed the side of her neck, slow and possessive, then stepped away.
“Wear the red dress.”
Royale’s eyes flickered to the dress hanging near the end of the rack. Deep red. Tight. Elegant. Too bold for the way she felt inside.
“I was thinking about the black one.”
“I said red.”
Silence filled the closet.
Royale met his eyes in the mirror for one second too long.
Santiago’s smile disappeared.
“Is there a problem, mi reina?”
My queen.
That was what he called her when people were around.
That was what he called her when he wanted to make her remember she wasn’t free.
Royale looked away first.
“No problem.”
“Good.”
He turned and walked out, leaving behind the scent of expensive cologne and control.
Royale waited until the bedroom door closed before she released the breath trapped in her chest.
Her phone buzzed on the vanity.
She grabbed it quickly.
Trina: Girl, you alive in that mansion or did Dracula lock you in the basement?
Despite herself, Royale smiled.
She typed back.
Royale: Barely.
Three dots appeared immediately.
Trina: I knew it. I’m coming over.
Royale: No. Not tonight. He has some dinner.
Trina: He always got some dinner. Some meeting. Some fake business. I don’t like that man.
Royale stared at the screen.
Trina Monroe had never liked Santiago. Not from the first time Royale introduced him. Trina had pulled her to the side that same night and said, “That man smiles like he hiding bodies.”
She wasn’t wrong.
Another message came through.
Noelle: Are you okay?
Royale’s throat tightened.
Noelle always knew when to ask the real question.
Royale wanted to tell the truth.
No, I’m not okay.
No, I don’t know how I ended up here.
No, I don’t know how to leave a man who owns half the city and threatens the other half.
Instead, she typed:
Royale: I’m fine.
Trina responded first.
Trina: Liar.
Then Noelle.
Noelle: We’re coming tomorrow. No excuses.
Royale looked toward the bedroom door.
Tomorrow felt like a lifetime away.
She put the phone down and reached for the red dress.
By the time Royale came downstairs, the mansion was already full of men.
Men in suits.
Men with guns tucked under jackets.
Men with gold chains and cold eyes.
The Reyes estate sat on the edge of the city behind iron gates, private security, and cameras that followed every move. From the outside, it looked like wealth. Inside, it felt like a trap with marble floors.
Santiago stood near the bar, laughing with two men Royale didn’t know. When he saw her, his smile widened.
“There she is.”
Every head turned.
Royale walked toward him with her chin lifted. She had learned early that weakness attracted predators. So even when she felt like falling apart, she moved like she owned the room.
Santiago wrapped an arm around her waist.
“My wife, Royale.”
One of the men looked her up and down too slowly.
“Beautiful woman.”
Santiago’s hand tightened against her hip.
“The most beautiful.”
Royale smiled politely.
For the next two hours, she played her part.
She smiled.
She laughed softly when expected.
She sat beside Santiago while men discussed shipments and territory using clean words for dirty business.
Product.
Movement.
Protection.
Losses.
She listened more than they realized.
That was something her mother had taught her before she died.
“Pretty women hear everything because foolish men think beauty makes you stupid.”
Royale had never forgotten that.
Across the table, one man mentioned the South Side. Another mentioned a family name Royale had heard whispered before.
Carter.
Santiago’s jaw tightened at the name.
Royale noticed.
She always noticed.
“The Carters are becoming a problem,” one man said.
Santiago leaned back in his chair. “Problems get handled.”
Something about the way he said it made Royale’s skin crawl.
After dinner, Santiago led the men into his office and shut the door.
Royale was expected to disappear.
That was another rule.
Be seen when called.
Be silent when dismissed.
She went upstairs, kicked off the red heels, and stood by the window overlooking the driveway. Black SUVs lined the circular entrance. Guards stood at every corner.
A beautiful prison.
Her phone buzzed again.
Trina: Tomorrow. Noon. Me and Noelle. Don’t play.
Royale smiled sadly.
Royale: Okay.
A second later, another message came through from an unknown number.
No words.
Just an image.
A black invitation with gold lettering.
THE MASQUERADE
Royale frowned.
Underneath it was one line:
No names. No faces. No questions.
Her heart beat faster.
Another message appeared.
Come be whoever you want to be.
Royale stared at the screen.
For the first time all night, she felt something other than fear.
She felt curious.
She felt tempted.
She felt alive.
Behind her, somewhere downstairs, Santiago laughed with dangerous men about dangerous things.
Royale looked at the invitation again.
No names.
No faces.
No questions.
For one night, she wouldn’t have to be Santiago Reyes’s wife.
For one night, she wouldn’t have to be trapped.
For one night, Royale Reign could belong to herself.
She saved the invitation.
Then she deleted the message.
